Artist Statement
I have spent years walking the line between art and design, often feeling conflicted, that I had to choose one until I found comfort knowing that I am a designer at heart(even an architect in my bones!) but a painter in soul. In 2004 these worlds joyfully collided and Lisa B's hand painted lamps were born. Though the lamps have been a trememdous success, I have continued to create paintings as well.
Being raised in a family steeped in the tradition of plantation culture, hunting and fishing, I inherently developed a love for architecture, nature and the rural southern landscape. (Learning to swim in the black water of the Boykin Mill pond, teeming with snakes, fish, gators and birds, now that will make an impression on you!!) Although many consider this imagery conventional in artistic terms, I enjoy the challenge of interpreting these images so that my work takes on a very nontraditional style. (Must be my old New York genes battling my old South Carolina genes!) My work is fresh, bold and makes a statement, but when you understand the roots of my designs, you know you have acquired a soulful work of art.
